#45- Our Crazy Lifestyle Habits - Peg Peterson, JD, Certified Health and Life Coach
Peg Peterson grew up a freckled red-headed surfer girl in Hawaii — the land of paradise. She loved the ocean, playing in waves, the trade winds, and the smell of flowers in the air. She loved the diversity of cultures, the different ways of looking at life, and the myriad of delicious foods. Spending time around the ocean was a continual reminder that her problems were small in comparison to the vastness of the universe. She thought this was the way of life — a way of life that would continue into eternity for herself, her children, and their children.
As she grew older, she went to college, became an attorney, got married, and had children, and had a vacation in Hawaii. In her early 20s, however, she had learned that she has Crohn’s disease. She figured this was something strange about me - a little bit of a nuisance unique to you but certainly not debilitating. Over time, however, she also learned that her children both had neurological issues. She still believed this was unique to them. There was something strange about their immune systems. But as they shared their story with others, she learned just how many more people were similar problems.
This began her journey of awakening. She learned that they are in an epidemic of chronic disease and that our way of life and our environment at the root of it. She also learned, however, that there are things you can do to make a difference. She encourages us to exercise the power to vote when you make a purchase, for example, and you can vote against corporations engaged in committing crimes against humanity for the sake of making money. She also learned that nature is filled with grace and and that our body’s ability to heal is much greater than we have been led to believe. With the right information and the right motivation, she believes that each of us is able to make a tremendous difference in the quality and enjoyment of our lives and the health of our planet. Her purpose and her passion are to help us get there.
This conversation shares her insights on
- What we're eating that causes leaky gut.
- How we're spending out time -indoors and around EMF's
- Our need to connect with Mother Nature - circadian rhythm, grounding, forest bathing and bodies of water.
When asked about a moment when she felt like she was stuck in the rabbit hole, she says, "It was very difficult being a single parent trying to keep my children healthy when it seemed like the system was set up to lead us to fail. When I heard the story of a boy who lit himself on fire to commit suicide after being on a prescription meds for a short time, and I realized he simply may have had a food allergy, that’s when I knew that people needed help."
As to her advice for the stressed caregivers, her advice is to keep offering love and support, to BOTH you and your loved one, as best you can. Try to find the beauty in your experiences as well as reasons to laugh.
